What is a work visa?
A work visa is official permission from a destination country to enter and remain for the purpose of employment. In most countries a work visa is issued after a job offer and employer sponsorship has been confirmed.
A visa is different from a work permit: the visa governs entry and stay, while the work permit authorizes the employment itself. Many destinations combine the two into a single document or process.
Common visa categories for workers
Employer-sponsored visas — issued when a specific employer offers you a job and sponsors your application (common in the Gulf, Japan, Korea and the EU).
Skilled migration visas — points-based or occupation-based systems where the applicant applies directly (used in Australia and similar destinations).
Seasonal or programme visas — arranged through government-managed programmes such as seasonal agricultural schemes.
How to check what you need
Start with the official immigration authority of your destination country. Confirm the visa category, eligibility, fees, documentation and current processing expectations on their published channels only.
Avoid relying on third-party blogs for fees or timelines. When in doubt, ask the embassy or consulate directly.
