The two main pathways
Japan receives foreign workers primarily through the Technical Intern Training Programme and the Specified Skilled Worker categories. Both are governed by bilateral arrangements and strict registration rules.
Candidates are selected after language and skills testing, and placements are arranged only through registered sending organizations approved by both governments.
What you will be tested on
Language: Japanese proficiency is the core requirement and is normally measured by the JLPT (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test).
Skills: depending on the occupation, a skills evaluation or certification is required before selection.
Costs and fees
The Japan pathway regulates what candidates may be charged. Know the officially published cost breakdown, keep every receipt, and report any unauthorized charges to the authorities.
